*Munich (MUC) and *Nuremberg (NUE) airports (both ~1.5 hours away by car) have the most convenient airports for those flying in from the US or Ireland.
If anyone is making a trip of it or hunting around for the best prices, the following could be interesting:
* Frankfurt (FRA) (major hub with easier train connections and probably the best prices!) ~3.5 hours
* Vienna (VIE), Austria ~ 4 hours (fun fact: you can travel by river cruise between Regensburg and Vienna along the Danube!)
* Berlin (BER) ~5 hours
The closest Ryanair connection from Dublin (Nuremberg) has unfortunately been discontinued for 2025, so *Memmingen (FMM) and *Salzburg (SZG), Austria, are now the closest Ryanair connections. *Hahn (HHN) is also possible.
Updated accommodation recommendations coming soon!
In the meantime, the town of Kelheim is convenient and accessible to our venues.
Regensburg is also an option. However, travelling between Regensburg and our venues is less convenient.
They may begin scheduled construction on the train tracks between our locations and Regensburg starting July 4th!
Download the "DB Navigator" App (for Android and Apple) to look up public transport schedules and buy tickets for single rides or multiple trips, such as:
- the Bayern-Ticket that gets a group of five (plus any amount of children under the age of 15) around Bavaria for €32 per day, and
- for travelling outside of Bavaria or for travelling multiple days, the Deutschland-Ticket for €58 per person gets you around the whole country for a month (this ticket is a subscription system, so make sure to cancel the subscription right after buying the ticket).
Both of these tickets are only valid for regional trains and busses, not high-speed trains (marked on the app as ICE, IC, or EC trains).
We suggest having access to a car or carpool in the Weltenburg area if your group doesn't have a good handle on German public transport!
While you can reach Kelheim by public transport (station "Saal [Donau]" on the train line between Regensburg and Ingolstadt followed by a 20min bus ride or 10min by taxi into Kelheim) or by ship (every Tuesday from Regensburg), a rental car would be definitely convenient to travel between hotel, church, and reception, as well as exploring tourist attractions in the area.
